Learn how to create a guest list for your wedding with these helpful tips.

Planning a wedding can be stressful, and creating a guest list is often one of the most challenging aspects. It can be tough to decide whom to invite, especially when family members have different opinions. Here are some tips on how to create the perfect guest list for your big day.

MAKE THE GUEST LIST FIRST, THEN SELECT THE VENUE

It's wise to create your guest list before selecting your venue. By doing so, you won't be restricted by a certain number of people. This will help take the pressure off of creating a wedding guest list.

BALANCE TRADITION WITH PRACTICALITY

Traditionally, a wedding guest list is divided into three parts: the couple's guests, the bride's parents' guests, and the groom's parents' guests. However, nowadays, couples are paying for their weddings, so it's up to you and your partner to decide whom to invite. A good rule of thumb is to invite people whom you've seen in the past year or with whom you're in regular touch. If you have room left on your guest list, then invite more distant relatives, friends of parents, etc. To keep things under control, give each set of parents a specific number of guests that they can invite.

AVOID HURTING FEELINGS

When deciding who to invite, make sure to draw a clear line. Don't invite a few of your first cousins and leave the others off the list. It's much easier to say, "Sorry, we decided to only invite first cousins" than "Sorry, I just invited the second cousins that I'm close to.

" ADULTS ONLY? PLUS ONES?

Deciding whether to have children at your wedding can be tricky, and it can make the invitation wording awkward. Consider creating a kids-only room with a babysitter at your reception venue, or helping out-of-town guests find a babysitter. Additionally, deciding whether to invite plus ones can be challenging. If your guest list is already full, it might not be feasible to have additional people. However, if you decide to invite plus ones, address the invitation to "Name and Guest."
